BASIC TRAINING REFRESHER STCW 2010 

(BECOME COMPLIANT)

 

If you were previously issued a Basic Traing certificate under Section VI/1 of the STCW Code prior to August 1, 2013 and/or have less than one (1) year of sea service

 

If you have at least one (1) year of sea service in the past five (5) years

 

All seafarers with an STCW endorsement will need to complete a Basic Safety Training Refresher course every five years to be in compliance with the minimum requirements of the STCW 2010 Amendment.

 

Under the STCW 2010 Amendment seafarers that DO NOT have at least one year of qualifying sea service in the past five years, are required to complete a 3-day Basic Safety Training Refresher course, which refreshes the seafarer in the four (4) areas of competency:

  • Personal Survival Techniques

  • Elementary First Aid

  • Fire Prevention/Fire Fighting

  • Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities.

 

Under the STCW 2010 Mendment a 2-day Basic Training Revalidation for seafarers that DO have at least one year of qualifying sea service in the past five years and have previously certified per Section VI/1 of the STCW Code as amended (previously completed Basic Safety Training), are required to complete just the 2-day Basic Training Revalidation course, which refreshes the seafarer in two (2) of the four (4) Basic Training areas of competency:

  • Personal Survival Techniques

  • Fire Prevention/Fire Fighting.
